All thats missing? ...a puck
All thats missing? ...a puck

I grew up playing hockey. I always had an idea of what a goon was (and I ain't talking about what you do with your penis). Never in my life have I pictured a goon to be a skinny guy with glasses and a bad haircut. But that is what “Slap Shot” makes hockey goons out to be. The three Hanson brothers in this movie are absolutely electric. They all look the same, and will tussle with anyone on the ice. The Hansons give the minor league hockey team, The Charlestown Chiefs, exactly what they needed to start winning some games.

That is pretty much the entire plot of the movie. You watch the team fight their way to the championship. There is little to zero hockey being played, but that doesn't mean it isn’t a good time. I forgot all the other characters names because they were all forgettable but the player coach is played by Paul Newman somehow. His character is kinda a perv and keeps on trying to get some ass because his wife left him lol. The only other character that is sort of relevant to the plot is apparently named Ned Braden (unfortunate name) and he refuses to follow the rest of the team in being goons. Ned doesn’t like his wife for a reason I missed because I was making chicken while watching half the movie. Ned’s wife is kinda hot.

Anyway, after a lot of fighting and skating with no helmets or facemasks, we arrive at the end of the movie. In the championship game, the chiefs plan to play clean. That only lasts for one period and the final scene culminates into what I can only describe as chaos! Well I guess I could also describe it as mayhem, but that is outside the point haha. SO both teams have benches cleared and are absolutely just going at it. I’m talking skates to faces, fists to jaws, knees to ribs. Let’s just say it's pretty ugly. Then, out of nowhere, this fucker Ned comes on the ice and and starts stripping. He goes all the way down to his undies and the crowd for some reason loves it. Maybe he didn’t fuck with his girlfriend because he is gay? That was my first thought when I saw this scene. And then finally to wrap it all up, the ref sees Ned’s performance and just gives the victory to the Chiefs. Why? Who knows, it's a comedy movie made in the 70’s.

Overall, this movie is a classic and there are some memorable moments. However, I was kind of bored with it after the scene when the girls boobs were out and the only thing that caught my eye in the latter half was Ned Braden stripping. Official Rating on the Mayhem Scale: 3.2 / 7
